It seems like Fernando Alonso‘s tenure at Aston Martin might be over, much sooner than expected. With Sergio Perez once again failing to prove why he is deserving of the second Red Bull seat, rumors were already going on about various drivers who might replace him. However, following the events at the Mexican Grand Prix, the latest development has come forward regarding an interesting driver swap.

The Mexican Grand Prix was a focal point for a few drivers. In particular, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso. While the local hero crashed out at just lap 1, Alonso on the other hand had to retire at lap 47, as his car sustained damage running over debris. But, with Aston Martin‘s season turning worse and worse, it seems like the Spaniard might be ready for a team switch.

Aston Martin’s recent struggles are no secret. While they might have started the season being one of the most competitive cars on the grid, as other teams caught up to them, their weaknesses have been exposed! And it looks like Fernando Alonso might have had enough of all this, as the recent developments about his future suggest he might soon be involved in a driver swap.

According to recent reports, Fernando Alonso is not happy with the current situation at Aston Martin. With the team going through a downward trajectory, Alonso is possibly on the cards of leaving Aston Martin after the current season. What’s more interesting are the rumors that the 2024 car, AMR23’s successor looks non-competitive. Something that doesn’t suit the Spaniard.

The rumors also suggest that Fernando Alonso is most likely going to switch to Red Bull! A driver switch between Aston Martin and Red Bull is possibly on the line, for Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez. As Perez has continued to struggle further and further with the RB19, it seems like Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have had enough.

Alonso often likes to initiate a chaotic set of events in the F1 silly season. Be it forcing Ferrari’s hand in 2010 to get a seat or fueling the Oscar Piastri saga at Alpine last year, Fernando knows how to send shockwaves with his infamous team moves. Perhaps the Aston Martin masterstroke could also be a similar infamous one that ages badly.

Still, if this Red Bull rumor ends up being true, this situation can be a win-win for both drivers. At least for Alonso! He would get to once again drive a competitive car, and Checo will at least have a future in F1. It’ll be interesting to see what ends up happening toward the end of the season, with only three races remaining, now.

Does Alonso to Red Bull even make sense?

Logically thinking, it’s debatable. On one hand, Red Bull happens to have a lot of academy prospects, along with Daniel Ricciardo who recently had quite a stellar weekend. Giving the seat to a 42-year-old driver who has had his time at the sport over the other options might seem unfair. But at the same time, it’s interesting to note that besides Daniel Ricciardo, none of the Max Verstappen teammates have been able to go toe-to-toe with him.

Considering that Alonso is the most experienced driver in the history of F1, along with being a two-time world champion. Perhaps this could be a chance that see Max Verstappen finally have a teammate who can go toe-to-toe with him.

Could you imagine how entertaining would be to see? Alonso, F1’s favorite villain, and Verstappen, the unstoppable demon. Wouldn’t that be a duo that you would want to see week in, week out, every time you watch an F1 race? I know I would!
