Formula 1 served the thrills and spills tonight as Charles Leclerc takes home the first victory of the season. However, Red Bull suffered a massive blow as both their cars were out before the race ended. It was a heartbreak they did not expect, as Max Verstappen retired his car in the 54th lap, followed by Sergio Perez.

Max Verstappen had issues throughout the race, as he could not match Charles Leclerc. The clash between the two drivers was neck and neck, but the Dutch driver ended in the pits towards the end of the race. Lewis Hamilton took the final place on the podium, much to Red Bull’s dissatisfaction. Helmut Marko discussed Red Bull’s problems after the race and will hope for a strong second race.

Max Verstappen’s ‘did not finish’ result will not have gone well in the Red Bull camp. And the fuel was added to the fire when Sergio Perez retired the car towards the end of the Grand Prix. Red Bull’s Chief Advisor, Helmut Marko, revealed the issues the car faced on Sunday.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said that both the drivers suffered similar issues during the last part of the race. The engines did not receive enough fuel and as a result, they had to retire the car. Additionally, Verstappen suffered from a power steering issue as well.

The Dutchman’s impressive pit-stop might have come at a cost, as according to Marko, it caused the steering problem.

The race provided an enticing battle between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. They were battling over second place shortly after the pit-stop had opened. Coming out nearly three seconds behind Leclerc, Verstappen set about slashing the gap, reeling off great speed until he was within DRS range of the Ferrari. He tried to pass Leclerc several times over the following laps but could not make a move stick. In the end, the reliability issues got better of them as Red Bull suffered an immense blow.
