F1 fans were stunned during the final lap of the Brazilian GP when Max Verstappen denied to give his position to his teammate Sergio Perez. The Mexican is in a fight with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc for the P2 position in the driver’s championship. Both the drivers are level on points and Verstappen giving the position to his teammate would’ve given Checo an advantage of 2 points.

Since then, Red Bull has come out and said that everything was internally discussed with the pair and cleared out. Christian Horner also admitted that Verstappen would help Perez in any way he can to secure P2 in the championship.

However, F1 reporter Karun Chandhok does not believe that everything is sunshine and rainbows in the RBR camp. Talking to Sky Sports, Karun said, “I think that is putting lipstick on a pig. I think there’s a real problem. What happens when they’re wheel to wheel the next time out and there’s a team order? Does either driver comply? Do they keep this in the back of their minds?”

He further added, “There’s been a lot said. It’d be fascinating to hear from Christian and Helmut and understand what conversations they had behind the scenes in the last five days to try and resolve the situation.”

The Indian former driver told Sky Sports F1, “Honestly, I don’t understand it because he’s won the World Championship. I think it’s a little bit short-sighted as well because you know he might need Checo’s help next year in the World Championship battle.”

He also added, “He needed him last year in Abu Dhabi, he needed him at other times this year, so for me, that’s a little bit of a short-sighted decision.

Chandhok also used the instance of Ayrton Senna giving up his victory in 1991 in the Japanese GP. The Brazilian knew a 2nd place finish was enough for him to seal the title. Subsequently, Senna gave up his position so that his teammate Gerhard Berger could win the race.
