Max Verstappen won the drivers’ championship in what would go down as one of the best seasons ever. The Red Bull driver edged out his title rival Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the last race to take the title. Former world champion Alain Prost stated the Dutchman had the perfect season.
Verstappen won 10 races and had 10 pole positions throughout the year. He finished 1st or 2nd in every race in which he finished and did not have damage to his car. Prost also recognized Max’s achievements and mentioned that the young driver was on another level in 2021.

As reported by Motorsport.nl, the four-time world champion mentioned Verstappen had always had the speed but too many mistakes in the past. But since the start of this season, he was ready to dominate the sport and take the championship.
“Max actually had the perfect season this year. When he only just started in Formula 1, I remember very well that we said, ‘he has the speed, he has everything, but he still makes a lot of mistakes because he wants too much.’ But that is also normal when you are still young.” Prost said.

In the past year, Max almost didn’t make a mistake. Maybe only the one during qualifying in Jeddah, but hey, he was pushing so insanely hard there, too. This year he was ready to storm the top,” Prost added.
Verstappen did take another step this season to challenge the dominance of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. Now, it would be interesting to see how the Red Bull driver reacts next season. Whether he will push for another title or still be in the hangover of his first one, only time will tell.
