Racing Point technical director Andrew Green has said that Lance Stroll has taken quite the “battering” in recent times. In the latest series of disappointments for the Canadian driver, he finished in P13 – way behind his teammate Sergio Perez.

Green is quoted as saying, “Obviously he’s not where he was, for sure, from where he was at Monza to where he is now.

“There’s a lack of confidence for sure. Which we’ll have to work on over the next week or so trying to get him back again.”

Being affected by the coronavirus has also impacted Stroll. In that regard, the team feels that it might take a bit of time for him to get back the mojo he showed at Monza.

Lance Stroll has not had a good past few weeks or so

The Racing Point driver did not particularly enjoy a great qualifying in Imola, which saw him start at P15. Even as the race went on, it did not get any better for him.

“He’s obviously taken quite a battering physically and mentally. It was quite a big accident in Mugello, so I think that probably dented his confidence. And then not being fit for a couple of races.” said Green.

Stroll finished outside the points for the second race running. The fact that he suffered two DNFs in Sochi and Portimao, has gone to show that he has just not been the same in recent races.

However, it would feel that when the chips are down, a person really emerges better. As we head into the last four F1 races of the season, Stroll could well buck up and show what he is capable of.

As the business end of the season approaches, the period could well be enticing for teams in the midfield. Racing Point, McLaren, and Renault have been in the fight for P3 for a significant part of this season.

The Silverstone-based team, from that perspective, needs both Perez and Stroll firing. In a way, it could also be an opportunity for the Canadian driver to gain his confidence back.

After all, one good race can always make such a massive difference to a driver. Racing Point will hope that that race would be the Turkish Grand Prix, which will take place behind closed doors on November 15.
