Having acquired a majority stake in Aston Martin earlier this year, it has now been revealed that the Racing Point team owner Lawrence Stroll was also on the lookout for fresh investment opportunities elsewhere. As per reports, Stroll’s next investment target seemed to be in the world of Formula E.
According to The Race, “Lawrence Stroll held discussions with both Venturi and DS Techeetah Formula E teams about becoming a potential future investor.”
These talks took place nearly a year ago in 2019. But the talks were put on hold as Stroll decided to pursue acquiring a majority stake in Aston Martin instead.

The report further states that Venturi are still on the lookout for fresh investment. The majority owner Gildo Pastor would be more than happy to have a new investor on board.
Venturi’s minority shareholder and team boss, Susie Wolff, had earlier said, “Would we consider (new partners) in the future? If it would bring advantages to us as a team, there’s always a possibility.”
Venturi, or ROKiT Venturi Racing, as they are popularly known, finished the latest season of Formula E in tenth place (out of 12). Despite working with former Ferrari driver and F1 great Felipe Massa, the team only ended the campaign with 44 points.
Their best finish across 6 seasons of Formula E racing came in the 2015-16 campaign. They ended that season in 6th place with 77 points.
Racing Point owner Lawrence Stroll’s talk with DS Techeetah broke down
The other team Stroll was in talks with was the two time Formula E championship winners, DS Techeetah.
The report read, “Reigning champion team DS Techeetah is also understood to have been on the lookout for future investors and did hold talks with Stroll at the end of 2019.”

However, talks with Stroll eventually fizzled out. As thing stand, the Formula E champions have entered into discussions with other parties, discussions that are apparently ongoing.
Stroll’s interest in the premier electric open-wheel racing series will make Aston Martin very happy. After all, the British brand is set to roll out its own full line of electric cars come 2025.
