Oscar Piastri is absolutely tearing it up in the world of Formula 1. The Australian rookie was already proving his worth, but after the 2023 Qatar GP, he put a stamp on his abilities. The McLaren prodigy not only secured his first pole position but also recorded his first win, albeit both in the Sprint format. Piastri also topped his weekend with a P2 in the main race. These consistent performances all point to a lengthy and successful F1 career as his racing is turning heads. Not just turning heads though, his racing is also turning his doubters into fans and an F1 journalist proved that with his incredible tribute to the young Australian.

The fans love Piastri but after the Qatar GP, a Swedish F1 journalist Scott Mitchell-Malm showcased how much. He took to X to tweet an update, albeit about his personal life. concerned F1 and specifically the McLaren man. The Swede named his newborn son Oskar, which is pretty evidently the same as Oscar. The journalist also tagged both McLaren and the Australian in the tweet, highlighting the correlation.

“The #QatarGP weekend didn’t go as expected. Fortunately, I was at home… 😬 Oskar didn’t fancy waiting for the 18th. He turned out to be a great omen for his #F1 namesake (you’re welcome @OscarPiastri @McLarenF1). The joy is overwhelming and so is the awe I have for Sara ❤️” tweeted the F1 journalist.

Incredibly enough, Piastri noticed the tribute and the overwhelmed Australian replied to the tweet as well. He wrote, “Many congratulations to both Sara and yourself. Hope mum and baby are doing well. Surely Oskar is an 81 fan?!”

What an incredible feeling it must be to feel the amount of love Piastri is receiving from his fans. Not just his fans, however, he has received appreciation from Lewis Hamilton as well.

The main race did not go as expected for the Mercedes man. Starting from P3, Hamilton was out of the race before he crossed turn 1. However, he had an incredible outing in the Sprint race, where the Mercedes man made a recovery run from P12 to finish P5.

All the while, Hamilton was keeping tabs on his ex-team as well. The Brit was overjoyed to hear Piastri crossed the finish line first and his radio exchange will prove that to you.

After crossing the finish line, he asked, “Did McLaren win?” His engineer replied, “Yeah, so, we’ve got Piastri P1, Verstappen, Norris P3, George P4,” to which Hamilton said, “Ah, amazing! Impressive! Oscar and the team.” 

That’s not all, Hamilton showcased his appreciation by reposting Piastri’s celebratory Instagram post on his story as well.
