Losail International Circuit was first opened up in 2004 for MotoGP and in 2021 it will host its first-ever Formula One race. The estimated cost of the track is said to be around $58 million and has a capacity of 8,000 fans.

The circuit has sixteen corners, nine to the right and seven to the left, providing the drivers a chance at overtaking. There is said to be only one DRS section zone, and that is between turn 16 and to turn 1.

While the circuit length is 5.38 km, the race distance is said to be around 306.66 km. Additionally, data collected by the Mercedes simulator shows a maximum speed of 321 km/h.

Qatar GP boss is confident about having an exciting race

With Losail International Circuit hosting its first Formula One race this year, many are curious if it can make for an exciting Grand Prix weekend.

Executive Director of Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation, Amro Al-Hamad told Autosport, “The strategy is going to be completely different when it comes to tyre wear, because it’s a very fast track, or a flowing track with a couple of opportunities for overtaking.

“I know from a competitive driver point of view that there is a lot of overtaking that is going to be done, against all of the speculation that has been spread, that this is a straight-line kind of circuit, which it’s not.

“It’s very technical. It needs a lot of downforce. There are a lot of strategies that are going to be involved with the tyre wear here as well,” he concluded.
