Aston Martin had an eventful 2022 season. The year saw the four-time champion missing the first two races, and the team is lagging behind the rivals in terms of pace. Earlier this year, a former team principal pointed out the team’s owner, Lawrence Stroll, for Aston Martin’s poor performance. Former F1 team principal Colin Kolles believes that the Canadian billionaire is responsible for the team’s downfall.

Aston Martin finished their season on P7 in the WCC and throughout their journey of two years on the tracks the team has suffered in terms of pace. Looking at the team’s performance, a former F1 team boss has little good to say about the Silverstone-based side. Colin Kolles, who was the team’s principal and has worked for the predecessor of Aston Martin, blames the team owner Lawrence Stroll for the decline of the team.
He says that Stroll is treating Aston Martin as his vanity project to make his son a permanent member of Formula 1. “He knows everything best and puts his son at the center with all his power. To me, that is the totally wrong approach,” Kolles told Sport1.de.
Adding further the Romanian said, “They have a team owner who thinks he is the team owner, If you throw a million on the fire, the money will burn up just as fast as in Formula 1 if you don’t know what you’re doing.”

Colin Kolles had not only blamed the poor performance of Aston Martin on the billionaire but has also reckoned that the team’s star driver didn’t want to drive for the team.

Although the team owner Lawrence Stroll has set a target now in making the team capable of winning the championship in the next 5 years, but at one point their star driver didn’t want to drive for the team. According to Colin Kolles, Sebastian Vettel didn’t want to come back and race.

“I don’t think he wants to drive at all,” he said. “He just doesn’t want to do that to himself. That’s certainly a very daring thesis, but I’m sure that he thinks a lot about whether he’s still going to do it.”
Earlier Vettel made it clear that his career’s longevity will depend on this year’s results but the outcome wasn’t what it was expected and as a result, the third-best driver and winner of 122 podiums said goodbye to the sport after the last race in Abu Dhabi.
