Esteban Ocon has cemented his spot in Formula One for at least three more seasons. The French driver signed a new contract with the Alpine team until the end of the 2024 season. Ocon’s performances this season have improved massively since his campaign last year. Alpine non-executive director Alain Prost also praised the French driver for his progress in the sport.

Esteban won his debut race at the Hungarian Grand Prix this season. He put up a stern defense as he held off the challenge of Sebastian Vettel the whole race. Prost also commented on the relationship with Ocon and Alonso this season.

Alain Prost praises the progression of Esteban Ocon in 2021

While being a guest on The Fast Lane Podcast, the four-time world champion mentioned Ocon has learned a lot from the returning Fernando Alonso. He also shed light on the dynamic between Ricciardo and Ocon in the 2020 season.

“I think he has done a big progression not only driving but also mentally, the way you approach things. He has been helped a lot by Fernando. Daniel Ricciardo was also a fantastic teammate, but Fernando is more like a father.” said Prost.

Both drivers have worked in tandem to move the team forward in the fight against AlphaTauri. Alonso helped Ocon by defending from a charging Hamilton in Hungary, while Ocon returned the favor in Qatar by defending from Perez.

Prost also pointed out the fact that both drivers are willing to help each other to maximize the results for the team. “[Fernando]He is trying to teach him a few things, trying to see only by looking at Fernando working inside the team, the way he behaves, you learn a lot.

So it’s only by himself that he can progress. Every year and every race you need to think that you can become always a better driver and a better man.” said the French legend.
