While McLaren has a rich Formula 1 legacy, the glory has shifted to another discipline of motor sporting. The weekend was a delight for the British team as all 4 of their drivers took up 50% of the first three rows. The CEO Zak Brown had last year stated that IndyCar has a bright future despite the surge of Formula 1 in the States. And now he has made another “realistic” declaration, snubbing the 60-year-old legacy.
While Felix Rosenqvist (P3), Pato O’ward (P5), Alex Rossi (P7), and Tony Kanaan (P9) are scripting history at IndyCar, the talented Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri are left biting the dust on the F1 front. During the F1 Nations Podcast, it was highlighted that the Arrow McLaren team had a phenomenal result in Indianapolis.
Zak Brown gave a pragmatic reply. He said, “I am happy to spend as much time at Indy (indy500) as possible. I think we have a chance to win. Unfortunately, I am hoping for a good result in Monaco. But winning is probably unrealistic.”

In 2021, McLaren got their first win in a decade at the hands of Daniel Ricciardo with Lando Norris finishing right behind him in P2. And the victory meant so much that Brown got the circuit of Monza tattooed on his arm to remember the glorious day. And now with 2 forgettable seasons, Brown intends to recreate it.
On the latest episode of the F1 Nation podcast, Brown explained, “Our goal next year is to get back to a 2021-type season. A handful of podiums, a pole, a win. You know, mix it up. In 2025, we will have had everything that we need. I think we will be winning races in 2025. We’ve got the new era starting in 2026. You know, on paper, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be fighting for the championship.”
