Let’s recall the weekend in Canada. Alex Albon and his defense were among the highlights of the day. However, Albon wasn’t able to showcase the same skills here in Austria, despite being a power track that suits Williams. It was because Canada didn’t have many high-speed corners, but Austria did. Recently, an F1 Journalist shot down Lewis Hamilton and Co’s future claims, declaring Ferrari as a realistic threat. But just like the Williams is Austria, there’s a catch to it. What is it?
Ferrari put up a brilliant performance at the Austrian GP, finishing P2 and P4, battling with the Red Bulls during the race. This performance boost was probably because of the upgrades brought by the Scuderia. Mercedes, however, struggled massively in the car, with Lewis Hamilton complaining about almost every lap. It seems like Ferrari is eyeing to establish itself as the 2nd best car, leaving Aston Martin and Mercedes behind them.

However, Mercedes is going to arrive in Silverstone with major upgrades to the car. Toto Wolff even suggested it’s possible for the Silver Arrows to win in Silverstone. Nonetheless, F1 Journalist Peter Windsor has thrown Wolff’s claims out of the window after as he hailed Ferrari’s pace but also criticized Mercedes for the average performance. Windsor advised that Leclerc would have loads of confidence in the British GP.
According to Peter Windsor’s YouTube video, while talking about Silverstone, he said, “Good performance from Charles. That’ll give him a lot of confidence going into Silverstone, assuming it doesn’t rain. Ferrari should be okay relative to where they’ve been, that’s for sure. They should be okay relative to Mercedes and Aston Martin, which is a step forward. Whether they’ll be anywhere near Red Bull is very very unlikely. But the signs are out there, they’ve made some progress. Which is more than what could be said about Mercedes, who looked pretty average throughout the weekend.”
Ferrari hasn’t performed well in mixed and wet conditions this year so far. Charles Leclerc was completely miserable in his car this Saturday in the wet. Conditions in Silverstone will not be very different from Austria. It’s going to be a game of waiting to see what Mercedes will be bringing to Silverstone and if those upgrades help.

When Max Verstappen made his first pitstop in Austria and came out behind both Ferraris, many people had shimmered in their eyes for a Scuderia win. While that wasn’t possible, Leclerc explained how Silverstone is one of his favorite tracks as he looks forward to challenging Red Bull this weekend.
According to si.com, Charles Leclerc said, “Actually, these are my two favorite tracks [Red Bull Ring and Silverstone] that are not city tracks and Silverstone, we always had great results. So hopefully we can take advantage of the new upgrades we have on the car and be a bit more of a challenge to the Red Bulls.”
