Amidst all the driver drama at Haas F1, there may be some more transfer market drama brewing at Williams. Reports have suggested that new owners, Dorilton Capital, are considering replacing George Russell with Sergio Perez next year.
The Mexican found himself left out in the cold by Racing Point who swapped him with 4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Despite being initially linked to Haas and Alfa Romeo, it looks as though he may end up with the Grove-based outfit.

With such talks heating up, it was only natural that Perez would face this question at the drivers’ press conference, ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix on the 25th of October.
Checo remained coy about his future. However, he did say enough to suggest that something could be in the works.
He said, “I haven’t signed anything yet. At the moment, I don’t have much to say.
“The decision is getting closer and I should be able to say something soon. For now, it doesn’t make sense. I also want to keep my negotiations secret.”
Why are Williams F1 chasing Sergio Perez despite having the highly rated George Russell on the books?
The main reason for Williams desiring Perez is the significant financial backing he brings with him. The Grove-based outfit have been mired in financial crisis for a while now. In fact, Dorilton’s takeover happened as a result of that.
Looking forward, Williams would want to improve their substandard car and the sponsorship money Perez brings with himself could help Williams address those problems.
Furthermore, they would get a top drawer driver in Checo. Perez can help the team out both on and off the track. His experience of 189 entries and 8 podiums surely counts for something.

Should Williams be able to mix it up with the other mid-field teams in the future, Perez could help them excel at that too. After all, Checo has spent the best part of his career embroiled in heated mid-field battles, from which he has regularly come out on top.
However, there’s no concrete evidence to suggest Perez will partner Nicholas Latifi next year. In fact, Russell seems confident of retaining his seat for 2021.
