Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is seeking a 92nd career race victory at Portimao this weekend. It would see him go above Michael Schumacher’s existing record of 91 wins.

However, one subject that has been of constant interest to the F1 community, is Hamilton’s contract situation. Although, it is said to be confirmed soon, there is no concrete news about the same at the moment.

The British driver, however, recently posted a picture of himself in a black-and-yellow outfit. Renault and Mercedes took this opportunity to convert this into a matter of some hilarious banter.

Lewis Hamilton ‘fuels rumors’ of move to Renault

French manufacturer team Renault saw this as an opportunity to tease the possibility of the six-time World Champion moving to their team. And Mercedes did not waste any time to join in the banter and action.

Following the post from Hamilton, Renault’s comment read, “Lewis fuels rumours he’s joining @RenaultF1Team AGAIN by wearing this yellow and black look…”

Mercedes’ handle responded saying, “Those rumours we made up just won’t go away”. Renault once again got back to them saying, “No matter how many times we make the same (obvious) joke!”, and Mercedes closed their short thread stating, “Just wait will he wears a red hat.”

The last comment particularly is in a humorous reference to the fact that Hamilton wearing a red hat could’ve been a hint at a move to Ferrari. Of course, it is always enjoyable to see teams’ social media handle engage in some light-hearted content.

Both these teams will look for positive results in the Portuguese Grand Prix on October 25. Mercedes, the champions elect, will be looking for a front row lockout in qualifying, as they have done on so many occasions this season.

Renault, meanwhile, in their pursuit of midfield glory, would want Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon to build on the momentum from Nurburgring. Especially after the former’s podium finish, in what was a tightly contested race.
