McLaren could have classified their race as a solid outing had both their drivers made it into the Top-10. However, Lando Norris was involved in a collision with mid-field rival Lance Stroll early on forcing Norris to settle with a measly P13 finish.
Following the culmination of the Portuguese Grand Prix, Norris spoke about the incident. He didn’t seem pleased with Stroll and his antics.
The young Briton said, “I don’t know what he was doing, really. He went to the left, which I was quite surprised by when he could have very easily gone to the inside. I was easily halfway alongside him and he just turns in.

“He obviously didn’t learn from Friday. But he doesn’t seem to learn with anything he does. It happens a lot with him. I just need to make sure I stay away next time.”
The Friday incident Norris was referring to took place between Stroll and Verstappen. Stroll had only just finished his flying lap while Max was just starting his.
But going into Turn-1, Stroll stuck to his racing line and seemingly had no idea about Verstappen, who had come on his inside. In the end, Stroll turned into Verstappen and the Dutchman had a few choice words for the Racing Point youngster.
The P13 result means that Norris has failed to score a point in the last three races. He now drops down to 7th place in the Drivers’ Championship with only 65 points to his name.

How did Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris’ teammate, fare in Portimao?
As for Carlos Sainz, the Spaniard enjoyed a great race. He crossed the line in a solid P6 and was in fact leading the race for the first few laps after an epic start that saw him jump from P7 to P1.

However, his tires quickly degraded and forced him down the order. But he did end the race on a strong note by going past the driver of the day, Sergio Perez, to finish in 6th place.
Sainz’s Portuguese outing took his season tally to 59 points solidifying his P10 stand on the Drivers’ Championship table. Heading to Imola next week, McLaren would desire more of the same for Sainz, while hoping for Norris to find his way into the Top-6.
