Is Carlos Sainz's rumored move to Alpine the shake-up F1 needs right now?

One thing that has remained a suspense for most of this year is Carlos Sainz’s future team. Uncountable rumors have left the paddock and found its way into the minds of his fans. While they want the best for their favorite driver, one cannot worry less about the receding options. Meanwhile, Williams and Alpine have come up as the top two teams. Amidst this deal chaos, Pierre Gasly (Alpine) and Alex Albon (Williams) have signed their multi-year contracts. However, Sainz hasn’t decided on either of the teams for now, but recent developments and a subtle hint from Gasly narrate a different story.

With Flavio Briatore‘s return from ‘exile’, Alpine is on a quest to remodel the team. New strategies are in the making. Briatore, despite being a controversial figure has years of experience in the sport. His eyes can sieve the finest and therefore, Alpine is trying to bring Carlos Sainz to their team. And, it seems Pierre Gasly is playing the role of the moderator. He recently complimented the Spaniard and called him the “most experienced and valuable” option available (in the driver market).

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Pierre’s passive hints are heating the rumors air once again. Gasly has now winked a yes to Sainz whom he wants as his teammate for 2025. “I will welcome the fastest driver and we all know who it is,” said the 28-year-old French. He further revealed that he has indeed spoken to the ‘Smooth Operator’, noting: “I have done my part of the work”.

So what was he talking about? Has Pierre Gasly convinced Carlos Sainz to join Alpine for 2025? If yes, this would also mean other teams will close their doors to the Spaniard. And if not, then what is Carlos Sainz doing? On the other hand, Audi and Williams who’ve been waiting in anticipation for a confirmed response from Sainz could finally proceed with other drivers in hand. Meanwhile, Sainz continues to look for more possibilities. In a new batch of rumors, ‘Chilli’ is believed to be waiting for a seat to show up at Red Bull or Mercedes. So, what to believe in – the constantly arriving new rumors or Pierre Gasly?

Amidst this chaos, Carlos revealed that he was too busy watching the UEFA Euros 2024! “I haven’t taken a decision, sorry,” these were the Spaniard’s words. On the other side of the river, Gasly and Albon sit relaxed with an extended contract. Whoever joins their teams would be second to them anyway. Moreover, Alex Albon isn’t taking too much headache about his future teammate.

Alex Albon isn’t caring much about his would-be teammate

Unlike Pierre Gasly who is trying to convince F1 drivers in the driver market, Alex Albon is sitting, relaxed. Despite a disappointing season so far, Albon has shown sparks of his brilliance now and then. While his seat at Williams is confirmed, given, he signed the multi-year contract. He is the No.1 of the Mercedes’ child team. But, the seat next to him is empty. With Logan Sargeant, leaving Williams (or the other way around) at the end of 2024, who will replace him?

Initially, the rumors about Kimi Antonelli joining Williams were strong. The word of mouth felt more realistic. Until recently, when Carlos was declared as a potential candidate. But, the radar has been silent from his side. With no decision yet made, ‘Smooth Operator’ is causing quite the chaos in the drivers market. Meanwhile, Alex Albon stated: “Everything’s up in the air… I don’t really care [who it is].” It seems the Thai driver just can’t keep up with the suspense and tension anymore! But ultimately, he must be worried (maybe he is); after all, if Sainz were to be his teammate they’ll have to coordinate to maximize the performance.
