Pierre Gasly has recently opened up about a situation he still has grievances for. The AlphaTauri driver is still sad for missing out on the fifth position to Alpine despite having a brilliant season. The Italian team missed out P5 to Alpine by just 13 points to end the 2021 season.
Pierre, who drove valiantly, was the star of the team. He picked up a staggering 110 points out of 142 total points, leaving his Japanese teammate Yuki Tsunoda much behind. The Frenchman finished at P9 in driver’s standings, just 5 points behind McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo.
INTENSE. WARM. EVENTFULL. What a race that was. Extremely happy with P6! 100 points reached this season with @AlphaTauriF1 . Record 💪🏼 pic.twitter.com/4QT160FJ4j

Talking about last season’s standings, the former Red Bull driver conveyed, “On the downside, we still finished sixth despite having a great season. I think we could cross the Alpine. Expectations were very high at the beginning of the year and we performed better than we expected,”
AlphaTauri, then named ToroRosso haven’t had a good season like this for a long time. With the rise of their parent team, Red Bull, things look good for them as well. Pierre Gasly further stated on his achievements, “This was especially the case in qualifying. Saturdays were good and Sundays were also good. Getting more than 100 points was beyond what we could have imagined.”

AlphaTauri, too close yet too far
AlphaTauri started the 2021 season quite well. Many expected them to perform decently at the mid-table. And that is exactly what happened when McLaren and Ferrari fought for third place, while AlphaTauri, Alpine (former Renault), and Aston Martin battled to get the best position in the midfield.
Even though Aston Martin wasn’t a challenge to AlphaTauri, Alpine proved to be a party spoiler for them. A win for Esteban Ocon at the Hungarian Grand Prix proved to be the only difference between the two teams. Despite picking up 22 points at the last race at Abu Dhabi, P5 seemed too far for the Red Bull-owned team.
