The 2022 season of Formula 1 has already witnessed plenty of action in just three races. There are still 20 races remaining, much to the delight of the fans. The excitement surrounding the race week is high among the fans and drivers alike. The original schedule comprised 23 races this year. However, tensions between Russia and Ukraine resulted in the FIA canceling the Russian Grand Prix.

But on the other hand, to make things more exciting, Formula 1 announced a new venue in Las Vegas for 2023. With Qatar also added to the schedule, F1 fans might witness 25 races, a record for the number of races in a year. However, F1 has a regulation limit of racing only 24 times a year. So, there is a chance the organizers might drop one of the venues next year.
The French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, the race in Spa, and the historic Monaco circuit are in danger of seeing the drop. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed a venue must add value to remain in the F1 calendar. However, Pierre Gasly strongly suggested the races in classic venues should continue.
Pierre Gasly wants F1 to not meddle with traditional venues
Pierre Gasly is of the opinion that the race in Monaco must not be removed. “If Monaco is taken off the calendar, it would be a huge shock. That is perhaps the most legendary race in the world,” says the AlphaTauri driver who believes the Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most iconic race venues.
As a Frenchman, Gasly also feels a close bond with the Paul Ricard circuit in France. The 26-year-old also revealed he gets plenty of support in France and Spa. “I have a special bond with a lot of those races. The French Grand Prix is of course my home race, Monaco also feels like a home race and Spa is the closest to my hometown, so I always get a lot of support there.”

The former Red Bull driver is strongly against dropping historic venues. He stated these races are the “DNA of Formula 1.” With the future of the Monaco Grand Prix in doubt, Michel Boeri, president of the Automobile Club de Monaco, confirmed the races will continue in the venue after 2022.
He said, “We are still in talks and have to come to a deal. I can guarantee you that the Grand Prix will still take place after 2022. I just don’t know if it’s going to be a three- or a four-year deal, but that’s about the details.”
