AlphaTauri has confirmed that Pierre Gasly is staying with the team in 2023. There were plenty of rumors surrounding the Frenchman’s future after Red Bull extended Sergio Perez’s contract. However, the former Bulls man has put the rumors to bed and will stay with Red Bull’s sister team.

Earlier, the team boss Franz Tost himself confirmed Gasly’s stay with the Italian team ahead of the Canadian GP. He has not had the best of starts to the 2022 season, but now the 26-year-old will look to kick start his campaign after his future is secured.

Speaking after the confirmation of his stay, he said, “I have been with this team for five years now and I am proud of the journey we’ve been through together and the progress we have made. I’m happy to remain with my Scuderia AlphaTauri team.”

“This year’s new regulations have created new challenges for us and being able to plan our development with the team for the next 18 months is a good working basis for the future.”

With Daniel Ricciardo’s future in doubt, rumors suggested Gasly could find a seat with McLaren. And F1 fans on Twitter believe that the French driver deserves a better car. The AT03 has struggled to compete this season, and the team is currently 7th in the standings.

Gasly himself is 11th on the table and has only gathered points in 3 races. So, fans on Twitter were divided by his decision to stay with AlphaTauri.

Cries of ‘he deserves better’ were common on Twitter after AlphaTauri confirmed Gasly’s stay. However, the AlphaTauri fans were certainly over the moon.

Fans believe McLaren would have suited the Frenchman, while some believe that he will eventually replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.

Pierre Gasly has shown his potential with AlphaTauri after being demoted by Red Bull. No one will forget his victory in Monza anytime soon. And now he will look to settle in the Italian team and will hope to carry his impressive form.
