Lewis Hamilton is arguably the greatest Formula One driver in history. He has won 7 World Championships and over 100 races in his F1 career to date. But there have been many people who have mentioned that he only dominates the sport because he’s in a faster car. AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly mentioned that if Hamilton was in a Williams car, he wouldn’t even win a race right.
The difference in performance between a front-running team and a backmarker team is huge currently. Fans know that the resources the front running team has are astronomical as compared to a backmarker team.

As reported by GrandPrix247, the French driver mentioned that despite all his experience and skills, Lewis would not be able to win Haas or Williams’ win in F1 right now.
“Today, even if Lewis who is the best driver in F1 history. In a Williams or a Haas, he would finish last. It’s not even that he would be third or fifth, he would be in 18th or 16th place,” added the AlphaTauri driver.

The difference between the machinery is quite stark as was proved by George Russell in Sakhir. Russell, who was deputizing for Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix, came agonizingly close to winning a race despite not driving a Mercedes the whole year.
Hamilton has mostly had the best possible car in F1 throughout his career. He has won races with McLaren and Mercedes when they were the best cars on the grid. This has led many to believe that his dominance in the sport is because of the cars and not his skills behind the wheel.
But there is no guarantee that if he has put in a Williams that he wouldn’t come out victorious. Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to this question, as the scenario of Hamilton joining any team other than Mercedes is almost impossible.
