It looks like the dream of driving for Red Bull once again might be over for Pierre Gasly. The Austrian team offered a new contract to Sergio Perez, which he duly signed and extend his stay with the team until 2024. And with his own contract ending at the end of 2022, Gasly’s future with the Italian team is uncertain.

Many wanted the Frenchman to partner with Max Verstappen once again in Red Bull. He has been performing consistently and has been one of the best drivers on the grid since leaving Red Bull in mid-2019.
But with Checo‘s contract extension, that door is firmly closed. Former F1 driver Marc Surer mentioned he always thought the 26-year-old would make his way back to the top.

Surer mentioned that he always believed that Gasly will once again driver for Red Bull. But he understood why the Austrian team extended the Mexican driver’s stay.
“I always thought Pierre Gasly would get another shot at Red Bull’s A team. But Red Bull had to take action after Barcelona because with Perez it became clear that they have a driver who can really score points and support the team. They have always struggled with the absence of such a driver in the past,” said Surer.
“Now that Pierre couldn’t get the seat, he should look around anyway. I think McLaren might be a good option for him. But it made sense to me that he went to Alpine. I think we can all agree that Gasly is better than Esteban Ocon,” said the former F1 driver.

According to Planetf1, Pierre has 3 real opportunities in Formula One right now. He can continue to drive for AlphaTauri in the midfield in the future and get a podium once in a while.
He could also be a replacement for Daniel Ricciardo if McLaren replaces the Australian in the coming future. Interestingly, he could even join Mercedes as a potential successor to Lewis Hamilton when he hangs his gloves.
