Adrian Newey to Ferrari might just be a done deal. Ever since the technical genius left Red Bull, rivals Aston Martin and Ferrari were reportedly in a tug-of-war to acquire his services for 2025 and beyond. Slowly, the noise around the Lawrence Stroll-led team’s efforts died down after Frederic Vasseur had a private meeting with Newey in London. Moreover, the co-owner of the luxury brand, Piero Ferrari, has dropped a subtle hint at the finalization of the Scuderia’s dream team.

Vasseur has massively turned around Ferrari’s operations since taking the helm in 2023. In reviving F1’s most successful teams, the Frenchman even reinvigorated Mercedes’ top driver and poached him. With Lewis Hamilton on board, the plan for luring Newey, who still rues the missed opportunity of working with the 7-time champion, became easier. A few days ago, reports of a mega contract emerged. The men in Scarlet Red offered the ex-Red CTO a 3-year, $105 million deal.

Neither Newey nor his manager, Eddie Jordan, have commented on this development. However, Piero Ferrari, the only living son of Enzo Ferrari, might have indirectly confirmed the truth about the rumors, if not the exact deal. In an interview after Ferrari’s historic consecutive Le Mans victory, F1 journalist Leo Turrini questioned, “Is Adrian Newey coming or not?” The Italian owner’s reply was rather cryptic: “We’ll talk about it in the next interview,” he said, indicating a possible announcement to follow.

If signed, Newey would become the final cog in the wheel that would propel Ferrari back to winning ways. Hereon, the speculation is bound to keep growing unless the Briton decides to retire. And they are indeed growing.

Ferrari has “all the pieces of the puzzle” to seal the Adrian Newey deal

Adrian Newey was a troubled man at Red Bull. Because of the Christian Horner investigation and the subsequent ‘power struggle’, he couldn’t work in peace. Contrastingly, Ferrari is more stable than ever, with greater talent yet to join the team in the coming year. Newey’s former colleague, Mark Preston, also a Formula E Team Principal, believes that Frederic Vasseur & Co. have more to offer than any other F1 team.

“Ferrari have many pieces of the puzzle when it comes to attracting Adrian Newey,” Preston told OLBG. “They have the best drivers and Lewis Hamilton is obviously a big draw. They have a great engine program, a great team principal, and a lot of good engineers. If Adrian and Lewis do link up that would attract the top engineering talent. So Ferrari certainly have all the pieces of the puzzle to pull everything together.”

The earliest that Newey can begin working for Ferrari is the first quarter of 2025 which is after his 12-month gardening leave concludes. So come 2026, they could be the top dog when the new regulations are implemented.
