There’s no doubt Lewis Hamilton is the king of fashion in the F1 paddock. He strides in race weekend after race weekend in outfits that are bound to feature in F1 photographer Kym Illman’s Instagram grid. But this week, it wasn’t Hamilton who stole the spotlight. It was his brother-from-another-mother, Pharrell Williams, who hosted his first show as Creative Director of Louis Vuitton.
Hamilton and Williams go way back. Just like Hamilton is no stranger to the fashion world, Williams isn’t one to the F1 world. He’s appeared in Lewis’ camp more than once, and the two have been friends for more than a decade, so much so that the 7-time world champion calls the 11-time Grammy winner his “big brother.” But “big brother” featured an element in his outfit for the LV show that Hamilton might disapprove of.

In February, Pharrell Williams was named Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director. And on Tuesday, he made his LV debut as he showcased looks from the luxury brand’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection. And according to reports, the star-studded show was epic—what Lewis Hamilton’s debut season was for F1 fans is what Williams’ debut at LV was for fashion lovers.

At the show in Paris, Williams sported a camouflage suit, but it was his timepiece that would’ve caught Lewis Hamilton’s attention. He wore a Richard Mille UP-01 ‘Ferrari’ in titanium—the world’s thinnest mechanical watch ever produced. Introduced in 2022, the watch instantly became iconic, not just because of its manufacturing genius but also because it was the first watch born from the Richard Mille-Ferrari collaboration. And it’s been limited to 150 pieces. But why would Hamilton disapprove?
Hamilton has had a long-standing rivalry with Ferrari since his first season in the sport. In a McLaren, he was going against Kimi Raikkonen in a Ferrari for the championship, he lost out by 1 point to the Finn, and that’s where the rivalry started. It continued after he joined Mercedes in 2013, and Sebastian Vettel became one of his main rivals. But Ferrari hasn’t given Mercedes a hard time for a while now. The only time Lewis lost out to a Ferrari after joining Mercedes was in 2013 and 2022. Still, watching someone he looks up to wear a Ferrari accessory would’ve stung. Either way, he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to support his friend on his first outing.
Lewis Hamilton attends his “big brother’s” show
Another day, another fashion event, Lewis Hamilton was invited to. Hamilton flew to Paris to attend Louis Vuitton’s Menswear Spring/Summer 2024 show during his time off after the Canadian GP, where he finished on the podium. He arrived in an all-black outfit with a Damier-pattern LV jacket. What Kym Illman would’ve given to capture Lewis in his element?
