The new season of the Netflix’s Drive to Survive chronicles last year’s battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The latest season was released ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, and fans were excited to watch the drama unfold, again. However, the Dutch driver believes that the show exaggerates rivalries and tries to create a different narrative to the viewers. As a result, he did not participate in the interviews of season 4.

Verstappen conveyed that the show portrays the drivers differently and dramatizes the characters. Speaking on his views of the show, he said, “You as a person, you are trying to build a brand, just by being myself. But then a series like that can just put you down completely different just because they like it like that and I think that is very wrong and I prefer not to be a part of it.” the Red Bull driver explained.

He also warned the viewers of the show. The Dutchman senses that the new fans watching the show might get a wrong perception of the sport. He added, “People get the wrong idea about a certain person of how they actually are. They don’t know because they are new to the sport and they just watch the series.”

Some of the sport’s biggest names, including Verstappen and Toto Wolff, have complained that Netflix’s Drive to Survive glosses over controversy in a bid to add storylines and brings a cinematic view to attract new fans.

So F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali had to step into the frame of things. The Italian revealed his opinion on the show. And like Verstappen, he also feels that the show has overstated certain events. However, he also admitted that Netflix’s initiative has increased the viewership of the sport and attracted interest in Formula 1.
