In F1, Max Verstappen is the man of the hour. He’s actually the Man of the Year. His win at the Hungarian GP extended his WDC lead from Sergio Perez to 110 points. This was his 7th consecutive win of the season and his 44th win in F1. And in F1, 44 is the number that is associated with Lewis Hamilton. So, Verstappen made somewhat of a disrespectful remark toward the number and his want to quickly get past it.

Ever since his 1st race in the karting days, Hamilton races with the number 44. It means something to him because F44 was the license plate number on his dad’s car. And ever since, 44 has become synonymous with the 7-time champion. Even his fan army is called the LH44 army. So, when Verstappen was asked how he felt about his 44th win, he threw shade at his Mercedes rival.

Verstappen said, as quoted by sport1.de, “Hopefully it doesn’t stay at 44, that would be really bad. It would be good if I get to 45 quickly.” A nice grin brewed on his face as he finished his answer to the question. The rivalry between the two, however bitter, has many a time made it off the racetrack and into press conferences. Verstappen’s comment will not go down well with Hamilton’s fans, even if it was meant to be playful.

For Verstappen, everything seems easy now. He is racking up trophies easily and with the win at the Hungarian GP, Red Bull broke a historical record previously held by McLaren.

Max Verstappen and Christian Horner Express Heartfelt Gratitude to Red Bull After Achieving Historic Feat

In 1988, Ayrton Senna and McLaren won 11 races in a row. And they held that record ever since. Red Bull equaled that record by winning the British GP. And Verstappen’s victory in Budapest has extended the streak to 12 and helped the Milton-Keynes outfit break that record. Verstappen and RB Team Principal Christian Horner were ecstatic after achieving such a feat. And that showed in the post-race interviews.

Verstappen said, “12 wins in a row is just incredible. What we’ve been doing for the last two years has been unbelievable. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going for a long time.”

Horner sounded more emotional as his childhood dreams turned into reality. He said, “As a young kid, I remember watching the McLarens of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna achieving that incredible feat. They were an incredible team and Ron Dennis was an incredible Team Principal. To think that we’ve now bettered that, it’s something the whole team here in Budapest, in Milton Keynes, everybody behind the scenes has worked so hard for and will mean so, so much.”
