The United States Grand Prix gave the Formula One community an interesting battle between the two title contenders, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
However, this time around it was the Red Bull prodigy who claimed victory at the Circuit of the Americas. Additionally, former world champion, Damon Hill was quite surprised to see Verstappen’s radio outfox Mercedes.
Hill was surprised by Verstappen’s radio at the US Grand Prix

As soon as the lights went out in Austin, it was Hamilton who stole the lead from his arch-rival. But, Verstappen soon came into the pits as he saw the Mercedes driver losing pace around COTA. Verstappen’s tactics saw him get the lead back and surprised the Silver Arrows.
Speaking on an episode of the podcast F1 Nation, the ’96 world champion said, “I was surprised that Lewis was on the radio, saying you know, ‘I can’t keep up the pace,’ as he does sometimes. And you think why are you giving the game away.”
“Then you know Max was saying, ‘I can see him sliding around,’ and then pitted that completely outfoxed Mercedes, got track position back from his pole position that he lost in effect, and then dominated and controlled a very very tight race. It was thrilling from beginning to end.”

Max Verstappen extended his lead in the championship
Coming into Austin, the Red Bull prodigy had a 6-point lead over his rival, Hamilton. Verstappen was hoping a win at COTA could further extend his lead in the drivers’ championship.

The 24-year-old was true to his word and claimed another victory for the Milton-Keynes outfit. Now the 6-point gap has been extended to 12 points.
With the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen aims to grab another win to increase his chances of winning the driver’s championship. Meanwhile, Hamilton would throw everything at him to stop him from doing so.
