Mercedes have not had a great start to 2022. They failed to nail down their car under the new regulations. This has left them struggling and in a spot that they haven’t been in, at least in recent years. However, with the upcoming British GP, they are optimistic about their chances ahead of the weekend.

Mercedes Chief Technical Officer, James Allison, sounded upbeat ahead of the weekend at Silverstone. Speaking to Sky Sports Allison said, “Everyone in our factory doesn’t dare say it…but we are cautiously optimistic of having a more competitive weekend!”.

He went on to add, “I think some of the characteristics of the circuit will suit the car”. However, he also remained realistic and said, “We don’t have a car capable of winning from the front yet”.
He also jokingly added, “I’d cry” if Mercedes strike gold at Silverstone.

Mercedes will be hoping for fortune to side with them while Red Bull has a weekend to forget. A podium in Montreal for Hamilton was also a nice confidence booster for the Brackley-based team.

Lewis Hamilton has had his struggles this season. The Briton had to wrestle with major porpoising and other issues with his W-13. This has left him 6th in the driver standings 34 points behind teammate George Russell.

However, with his home race up next, Hamilton will be looking to break another record in his already glittering career. The Briton will hope to take the top step at the podium and make it most Grand Prix wins at a track.
Hamilton has already claimed victory at Silverstone 8 times and a win this year would take him past Michael Schumacher who also has 8 wins at the French GP.

However, if a victory is out of reach, finishing on the podium alone would take him past Alain Prost for most podiums on home soil. The two are currently tied at 11. Will it be a record-breaking weekend for Hamilton?
