Ask any Formula 1 fan and they’d tell you this season’s breakout star is Oscar Piastri. The Aussie is currently in his second year as a McLaren racer and his scores have improved by leaps and bounds. His string of top 10 finishes led to a roaring victory at the Hungarian GP, thanks to help from his teammate Lando Norris. And these accolades have catapulted Piastri to the fourth spot in the World Championships, above his heavyweight rivals like Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz. Thus, Piastri has justified the drivers’ market drama surrounding him that went down last year.

Oscar Piastri took part in the 2023 F1 drivers’ market while he served in a reserve role for Alpine. At that time, Fernando Alonso left the Enstone outfit and they announced they were promoting Piastri to take the Spaniard’s place. However, the Melbourne native denied signing a deal with Alpine and went on to take up McLaren’s offer instead. Thus, quite early on in his F1 career, two teams were fighting over Piastri and this made his fame go up. Naturally, Netflix’s Drive to Survive team decided to film Oscar and show his life away from the race tracks.

Now, Oscar Piastri‘s mom Nicole was home during the Netflix DTS shoot and she just shared her experience. The Australian spoke about how Oscar had forgotten to inform her that the film crew was coming to her place just one day before. This left Nicole with a lot on her hands as she readied the Piastri house for Netflix. However, the final cut of Drive to Survive’ never showed the footage they got from the Piastri household. Instead, DTS focused more on the entire McLaren-Alpine drama for hiring Oscar.

Speaking on ‘The Red Flags Podcast‘, Nicole Piastri told the hosts, “We filmed breakfast, and then it never made the [show] because, then, the whole Oscar-moving-to-McLaren story blew up, right? Which I’m not unhappy about that. [But] we didn’t get to feature on Netflix. There was a lot of effort that morning that I went through to make us look like we’re all normal.” Thus, Nicole now regrets spending all that time prepping for the Netflix show since the shot of her house never made the final cut.

Even though Nicole Piastri wanted a feature on Drive to Survive, Oscar’s three sisters were strictly against going on the show. So, what did they say?

Oscar Piastri’s siblings never “signed up” for DTS

During the 2022 season, the ‘Drive to Survive’ crew had contacted Oscar Piastri for a shot of his family having breakfast. However, the ex-F2 Champion forgot to mention that little detail to both his mother as well as his three sisters. When Oscar and his ladylove Lily Zneimer flew down to Australia for the Melbourne Grand Prix, Nicole, and the three Piastri sisters got to know Netflix wanted to film some clips for their show. And all three of the F1 star’s siblings decided not to allow ‘Drive to Survive’ to film them.

Speaking on how Oscar Piastri’s sisters reacted to the news of the ‘Drive to Survive’ crew coming to the Piastri household, Nicole Piastri recounted, “It was about midnight and, like, we were going to bed and Oscar said, ‘Oh, yeah, I told you that the Netflix crew is coming in the morning, right? And the girls are like,I’m not being filmed and I’m not going on TV. I don’t want to be part of this. I didn’t sign up for this.'”

Well, Piastri’s sisters seem to prefer to remain away from the spotlight. However, Oscar is gaining a lot of attention now for his brilliant performance in F1. So, do you think the sisters will come forward to cheer him publicly as Oscar inches closer to a Championship win in the future? Share in the comments below.
