Why did Lewis Hamilton face backlash while Max Verstappen gets a Hollywood debut with Brad Pitt?

While the F1 grid lined up on the Silverstone track, a special event unfolded in a different realm. Ahead of the British Grand Prix, Brad Pitt and his team released the title and teaser for the new F1 movie co-produced by Lewis Hamilton. And after Guenther Steiner’s Hollywood debut, it’s time for Max Verstappen. Many famous F1 faces appeared in the 1 minute 47 seconds teaser, blending the reel with real-life stances.

Max Verstappen, known for his straightforward personality and compared to a ‘robot’ for his intense focus, surprised many with a cameo despite previously stating, “Before the Grand Prix in Austin I saw a few clips of the new film when they showed them during the drivers meeting with an explanation of how they had filmed it all. It’s nice to see, for sure, but it doesn’t interest me that much. I don’t need to see a movie on my sport.”

Continuing his train of thought, Verstappen explained, “This movie tells a made-up story, and everything is always over-dramatized. I don’t have much interest in that.” To some extent, Max and his peers are already ‘acting’ in the Netflix series ‘Drive To Survive’. However, showing up in a film is not what Verstappen had wanted one year ago.

One year ago at the 2023 British GP weekend, an unexpected sight: Brad Pitt, driving a Formula 2 car disguised as an F1, tackled Luffield Corner and sped down the Hangar Straight. While Verstappen complained about the film, Joseph Kosinski’s team was doing wonders in Silverstone.

One year since Max Verstappen’s comments, he has made a cameo in the new F1 movies. A swift turn of events as it seems! Besides Max, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, and Callie Cooke also join the film, alongside many familiar faces to F1 fans. The teaser also featured fellow F1 drivers like Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, and Fernando Alonso. Hopefully, many more F1 faces will be featured in the movie. Since the aim is to bring connect reel to real, fans will expect more.

The almost 2-minute-long teaser was executed extremely well. Leaving no room for criticism. However, fans still express dissatisfaction. They want more, and Joseph Kosinski’s team must serve the purpose. They have already faced harsh comments due to the title of the movie. The filmmakers need to take serious measures ahead. Any kind of negative word of mouth could have an impact on the movie and not in a good way.

It’s good to see drivers like Verstappen keep aside their critical thoughts and feature in the movie. Despite initial doubts, Max Verstappen’s cameo in the new F1 movie is a surprising twist. And the fans’ high expectations from Joseph Kosinski’s team suggest they crave more. As filming continues, mixing real-life F1 stars with Hollywood flair promises an exciting spectacle. As for now, how well will the movie stand up to the occasion is the burning question.
