Do you recall when Toto Wolff accused the Team Principals in Drive to Survive Season 5? Mercedes were losing out a lot of performance because of the porpoising problem and Toto Wolff tried playing a cheeky move to help his team out. As Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso came imperiously close to a disastrous incident in Montreal, Toto Wolff’ double standards have been exposed by fans. What did the fans say and what exactly did they expose?
This weekend’s Canadian GP was full of drama and great racing action. One of the highlights was Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso’s fight. Once arch-rivals, Lewis Hamilton’s fiery comments of giving Alonso hell promised a spicy battle. And yes, it was delivered. After overtaking the Spaniard off the line, Russell’s crash called out the safety car which prompted many drivers to pit. Alonso, who was on Hamilton’s gearbox, followed him in and had a faster pitstop.
Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has insisted the pit lane near-miss between Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso at the Canadian Grand Prix was "a bit of drama" from the Aston Martin driver.

As Fernando Alonso went past Hamilton’s pit box, the Mercedes crew released the Briton as he joined just above the Aston Martin driver. Alonso frantically moved his steering wheel and applied brakes to avoid any incident. However, the FIA decided that it was just on the limit of being safe and disregarded any further investigation. On the replays, Toto Wolff was seen imitating Alonso as he made a funny face, indicating that he was mocking Alonso.
Now the Austrian has come firing shots at Alonso suggesting that the Spaniard was just exaggerating to attract a penalty toward Hamilton. Wolff labeled Alonso’s actions as drama. According to the tweet posted by @FastestPitStop, Toto Wolff said, “[It was] a bit of drama. Shaking the steering a little bit and a little bit of touching of the brakes. He is good at that, the cries of ‘I nearly hit him’… a bit of drama.”
Fans were not happy with Wolff’s comments as they showed the Mercedes CEO the reality by exposing his past antics and double standards. They took to social media as they slandered Toto Wolff. Let’s see what the fans had to say:
Fans react to Toto Wolff’s comments regarding the Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso pit incident
Fans took to Twitter as they expressed their displeasure toward Toto Wolff as they revealed the Austrian’s double standards. Many labeled Toto Wolff as a hypocrite, suggesting that if it was one of his drivers then he’d be all over the radio demanding a penalty. Many had flashbacks of the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP when Verstappen brake tested Hamilton and the Austrian smashed his headphones in anger. Let’s see how the fans reacted on Twitter
One of the biggest hypocrites in the sport. Would be screaming and chucking his headset all over the place if it were one of his drivers https://t.co/i7EaN2TZni

Now reverse it and it’s Alonso who pulled out on Hamilton…
LH- whoa that’s some dangerous pit exit man.
Toto – It was an unsafe release and I think it should be looked at

Some fans suggested that Toto Wolff should save these comments for the future when the tables are turned against his drivers in the future.
Let's remember this quote, and see how he reacts if things are the other way around in the future… 🤔

Let’s save this for the next time it happens to a Mercedes driver… #wagh

Anyone remember Hamilton’s theatrics climbing out the car last season holding his back and hobbling around, and he has the nerve to say ‘a bit of drama’ 😂😂😂

He'd know good acting, he coached Lewis on his bad back issues last year
— Luke Menzell (@lmenzell) June 19, 2023
Many fans recalled last year’s Azerbaijan GP where Lewis Hamilton got out of the car holding his back as porpoising was a major issue last year and it was Lewis Hamilton and Co’s attempt to force FIA to increase the ride height.
