In an astonishing turn of events, German racing driver Nico Hulkenberg has made his Formula 1 return. The move came after Haas decided to part ways with Mick Schumacher at the end of the 2022 season. As the American team locked in their decision to replace the young German with his fellow compatriot, Hulkenberg is all geared up to restart his F1 journey alongside Kevin Magnussen in 2023. As Hulkenberg is back making headlines, one incident regarding the German driver came into the spotlight when he behaved rather unusually.
The F1 returnee, Hulkenberg, once threw the microphone and walked away from an interview. The incident came to light after Jess McFadyen opened up about it in a podcast. McFadyen is an F1 personality and a Senior Producer for Sky Sports F1.

In September last year, at The Last Lap Show, McFadyen shared “He [Hulkenberg] once de-microphoned himself and basically like threw it back at me and was like ‘I’m done’.”
When the host asked what she asked him, McFadyen answered, “Describe how you feel when driving around Baku in an emoji, I think literally something like that and he [Hulkenberg] was like ‘Nah, I’m done.”

As per Jess McFadyen, the interview was from the time when Hulkenberg was driving for Renault alongside Daniel Ricciardo. After his Renault stint was over, the German found himself associated with Racing Point and Aston Martin on reserve driver duty.
Former F1 driver issued a Nico Hulkenberg warning to other drivers
Nico Hulkenberg is all set to start his new F1 season with Haas. After spending two years on the sidelines, the German driver is believed to be hungrier than ever. On top of his hunger for the seat and race, the urge for podiums seems to be even more.
Very happy to move into a full-time drive with @HaasF1Team in 2023. I feel like I never really left Formula One and I am excited to get the opportunity to do what I love the most again. I want to thank Gene & Günther for their trust! pic.twitter.com/47cBbm1YJl

Former F1 driver Marc Surer emphasized this point about Hulkenberg and issued a warning to rivals. As per German media outlet Forme1.de, Surer told, “He is a strong talent. In terms of speed, he usually gets to the point quickly.” [Translated using Google]
“He’s not a sensitive driver, he’s always been able to move a car quickly somehow, whether it’s oversteering or understeering. From that point of view he’s certainly a good man and just wasn’t lucky when it came to to finish on the podium. He still has a score to settle,” concluded Surer on Nico, who’s quite active on social media these days.

Interestingly, Nico Hulkenberg is one of the few drivers to never win a podium despite having a decade of experience in Formula 1. The 35-year-old never had a chance to celebrate a podium in Formula 1 despite having 181 race starts to his name, which is quite unusual and shocking. It’ll now be interesting to see if the German’s luck finally favors him.
