Lewis Hamilton is more than just another professional F1 driver. He has become an icon and a symbol of excellence, whilst also attracting new viewers to the sport.

But heading into the 2021 season, the 35-year-old does not yet have a contract. Although talks with Mercedes have been ongoing, concrete progress in negotiations still seem far away.

New Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali recently spoke about the contract saga in an interview with Sky Sport. Naturally, the former Ferrari team boss hopes that the seven-time F1 champion continues in the sport.

Domenicali reveals he spoke to Lewis Hamilton in the Christmas period

The F1 CEO stated, “We spoke in the Christmas period. He is preparing. Then he is not telling me if he will sign or not sign the renewal with Mercedes.” (translated via Google Translate)

“Of course, he has a great opportunity, not only sporty speaking, to become with numbers and who knows how to do the strongest in the world. He also has the opportunity to continue to have a role that goes beyond the sporting dimension And he will be able to do it also in the future, in other situations.”

Hamilton’s contributions have led to Mercedes’ current standing in F1, and vice versa. Therefore, Domenicali hopes that the resolution in negotiations between both entities happens quickly.

“‘operational’ champion and that a historical result is being played, one thing is to do it in another dimension. I am convinced and I hope, as an interested party, that everything can be resolved quickly,” concluded Domenicali on the subject.
