After two years of underwhelming performances at McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo and the team are parting ways mutually. While he will continue to race until the end of this year, he has given up on the idea of racing next year. Now the Australian driver has admitted his weaknesses with an eye on the 2024 season to make a comeback.

Daniel Ricciardo decided to not pursue teams to give him a cockpit in 2023, despite there being opportunities available at Haas and Williams. The decision came in following the announcement of Pierre Gasly switching to Alpine to fill the void left after Fernando Alonso’s switch to Aston Martin.

Daniel Ricciardo recently spoke with The Race and acknowledged his weaknesses, admitted he is not perfect. “I’m certainly aware that I’m not perfect.”

“I have weaknesses. And unfortunately, this car’s exposed that ultimately,” Ricciardo said. “So, there is that where it’s humbling. I can still work on things and better myself.”

The Australian, however, admitted that he is still confident in his skill. “But then the confident part of me is like… but you give me a car to win and I’ll f***ing win!”

Zak Brown denies Daniel Ricciardo’s claims of being kept out of the loop

Daniel Ricciardo, in an interview with Sky Sports in September, revealed he was not aware of Oscar Piastri’s signing date. He, however, admitted he was aware of McLaren’s ongoing talks with Piastri. He felt it was not his business to know what the team was talking to Oscar about.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown, on the other hand, denied the claim while talking with Kayo Sports. Brown claimed they kept Daniel completely in the loop about everything that was going on. “It was all transparent, well-communicated and there’s times we can tell people what’s going on and then there’s other times we just can’t.”

Zak also claimed he still shares a good relationship with Ricciardo and the two give each other big hugs every time they meet.
