Valtteri Bottas has become the new funny guy on the grid. As the season reaches its last phase, a common question in the driver’s conference is a poll on who will take home the big trophy at the end of the season. The Mercedes driver responded to the question with a very witty answer.

Currently, third in the driver’s championship, Bottas has Lando Norris 12 points behind him while Verstappen is a whopping 93.5 points ahead of him. When asked who he thinks will take the title this year, Bottas replied, “I still have a theoretical chance! After me? Lewis.”

If the current protagonists fail to score points over the next seven rounds while Bottas wins every single one of them… there’s a good chance for the Finn!

With Bottas leaving for Alfa Romeo next season, the driver and the fans await a Mercedes win before his exodus from the team. With seven races left in the season, even though Bottas leads a race, chances are, team orders will come in the way; the championship fight is too tight for Hamilton to miss out on points.

While Bottas’ day on the victor’s step will come soon, the chances of the driver lifting the championship trophy are unfortunately forlorn.

Valtteri Bottas wants to win

Bottas is moving from the strongest team on the grid to one that isn’t in the midfield battle. While one to nine seems like quite the jump, Bottas isn’t worried about it.

As Alfa Romeo has only seven points against its name, Valtteri is sure results will be different next season. ” I know that they haven’t really developed this year’s car and they haven’t really progressed this year. But I know the efforts they’re putting in for the future so I’m not too worried, it’s not going to improve suddenly this season, for them. That’s a fact.”

Despite joking about the championship, he wants a win to his name. “I want to win and also I really want us to get the fifth constructors’ title and obviously if it’s not me winning the championship, I want that to be Lewis.”

Revealing his motivation for the upcoming races, Bottas said, “For me, individual race results – that is still the big motivation for me.” Seven races hold seven opportunities for the Finn. Will we see Valtteri repping Mercedes at least one last time on the top step of the rostrum? One can only hope.
