Max Verstappen has been the prevalent force in F1 this season. The Dutchman looks in a league of his own and has left the only possible challenger for the title in the dust. Sergio Perez is the only driver to have a car as fast as Verstappen. However, as Max Verstappen marches on to dominate, the gut-wrenching reality has been shoved down Sergio Perez’s throat. What is this reality?

With all of this happening around Checo, the host of the F1: Chequered Flag podcast revealed the real problem that Perez has been facing as he gives the Red Bull No.2 driver a reality check. The host explained how Sergio Perez’s problem was the gap between his expectations and reality. The Mexican came into the season with hopes of winning the title when no one thought that he could.

According to the F1: Chequered Flag podcast, the host, while explaining how Checo handled his title expectations, said, “He hasn’t handled it very well. Somehow, he has to find a way to take a step back, and get a sense of reality about what he’s capable of. He’s Sergio Perez, he’s not going to be able to challenge Max Verstappen over an F1 season. It’s not going to happen. He’s just not good enough. He’s a really really good driver but he’s not at that level.”

While Sergio Perez finally made it to Q3 at the Hungarian GP after failing to qualify for it 5 races in a row previously, the result still isn’t great as the Mexican will be starting P9 on the grid. Let’s see what Perez had to say after qualifying. 

Sergio Perez’s reaction to a mixed emotion qualifying in Hungary

Hungary is a very technical track and is always a tricky circuit for the driver. While Sergio Perez will be happy to end the not making to Q3 curse, he isn’t happy with his performance. However, the gaps between the Top 10 were super close, so it’ll be interesting to see how the race pans out. Perez suggested that since Saturday morning, the team has been focused on race.

According to @Redbulletin’s Tweet, Sergio Perez during the post-race interview said, “A strange quali, we went through all the compounds, it makes it more difficult. We got to Q3 trying 2 different things, and it was costly. I lost 1 tenth and a half on my last lap, that’d have put us P4. Since FP3 we’re focused on tomorrow’s race”
