2022 is finally over and we are into a brand new year. As the tradition goes, it’s time to look back at the best moments from the year gone by. Mercedes also hopped on the bandwagon and got George Russell to react to 2022’s best TikTok videos. As Russell progressed towards a fan-made video that went viral, he admitted to it being his favorite but had some clarification to provide.

In the video, we hear a fan cheer as loudly as they can for George, urging him to kick a soccer ball lying on the grass. The Brazilian GP winner, riding a cycle, rode around the ball, waving to the fans in the stands. Much to the disappointment of that passionate fan, George kept him hanging and went back without kicking the ball.

In the video uploaded by Mercedes, George said, Oh, this is one of my favorite videos of 2022. So to give some context, there are about another 200 people around this guy who weren’t playing football and were just cheering my name. And it was a lot darker than it looks there, as well. So, it’s quite funny how I just missed the ball. But it’s not as bad as it looks in the video.”

Speaking with GP Fans recently, Russell said, “I’ve got a lot to thank him for because had Lewis [Hamilton] not been my teammate this year, people would’ve thought very differently about me this year.”

He continued, “I joke with him that he probably saved my career by staying on in Formula 1 this year because had he retired, and I had the exact same year as I’ve done this year, I’m sure perception would’ve been drastically different.
