Michael Schumacher is undeniably one of the most successful drivers for Ferrari, with the German securing 5 world championship titles with the Italian outfit. This consequently led his son, Mick Schumacher, to prioritize the Ferrari driver programme over Red Bull or Mercedes.

But, neither of Ferrari’s customer teams, Haas or Alfa Romeo, have been strong enough this season. Contrastingly though, Red Bull’s sister team, AlphaTauri, have been at the top of the mid-field on several occasions, delivering strong performances.

Hence, earlier this season, former F1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone, had reckoned that Mick would do great if he shifted to Red Bull’s junior programme rather than sticking with Ferrari. As a follow-up, BILD asked Mick’s uncle, Ralf Schumacher, to weigh in on the matter.

What did Schumacher say?

During the interview, Ralf supported Bernie’s opinion, as the German felt Mick would have a much better future under the Red Bull academy.

Exactly! I agree with him. AlphaTauri with Franz Tost would personally be my first choice for Mick,” Schumacher said without hesitation.

Haas F1 team are enduring their worst ever season in F1 at the moment. Neither of the drivers have even made it into the top 10 during a race. And that clearly proves Haas’ evident struggle for pace.

Nevertheless, Mick’s performances have been extremely strong this season, having beaten his teammate consistently until the weekend at Silverstone. The young German may not have had the chance to shine at Haas, but he has proved his worth in his very first F1 season.

What’s more, there is still a long way to go in this season, and Schumacher Jr will definitely come across an opportunity or two to score points. The only question is, will he grab onto it?

Mick Schumacher deserves better: Ralf

The Haas driver has been one of the strongest contenders to secure a drive at Alfa Romeo next season. However, Ralf isn’t necessarily looking forward to the switch. Moreover, he reckoned that Alfa Romeo haven’t proved much in F1, despite embracing support from their major investor, the Swedish Rausing Group.

I’m sorry, but I’m not a fan of that either. Alfa has had a major investor in the background for years. And there is far too little for that,” he felt.

Overall, considering Mick’s commitment to Ferrari at the moment, it is highly unlikely that the German will leave the Reds anytime soon.

In fact, Mick has often stressed that he wants to win a championship title with Ferrari, just like his father, and that’s exactly the team’s goal as well. Hence, amidst such counter-opinions, can Mick and Ferrari garner a few titles in coming years?
