Many critics booed Sebastian Vettel for his dominance during the Red Bull era. While Max Verstappen’s orange army dare not do it to him, the whole paddock has silently been hinting at their pace advantage despite the penalties. Toto Wolff was one of them who stained Sergio Perez’s wonderful performance on the streets of Baku. However, Checo’s performance has a very uncanny similarity to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’s past.

The only action at this weekend’s Azerbaijan GP came during the safety car restart. The Red Bulls ran away with the race in a two-horse fight between their drivers. Sergio Perez got ahead of Verstappen in pitstops during to safety car period and managed to keep the hungry Max Verstappen behind for the rest of the race. With the Red Bull finishing 20+ seconds ahead of the grid, Toto Wolff had a blunt observation about the Azerbaijan Main race.

Junaid#JB17 uploaded a post on Twitter. As per the post, Toto Wolff said, “Today was not a thriller. There was very little overtaking even with a big pace difference. We headed into a sub-optimum set-up direction during FP1 and by the time we realized it was too late, and the car was in parc fermé conditions.”

Mercedes CEO’s comments might be a little hard to swallow for those watching since the Mercedes domination era. At the peak of the domination, the Silver Arrows finished 40-50 seconds ahead of the field. Sometimes even putting more than half the grid a lap down. Hence, keeping these circumstances in mind, Wolff’s comments sound ironic. The Austrian explained there was very less overtaking despite the huge pace difference, again something that resounds with Mercedes’ past.

We have to agree with Toto Wolff that the practice session finished in the blink of an eye. The Baku circuit witnessed a lot of crashes and unreliability issues during the weekend. Even the whole weekend felt quite hectic, which kind of took the shine away from the Main race. Charles Leclerc shook hands with Toto Wolff, talking about Red Bull’s dominance.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez breezed past Charles Leclerc on the main straight at Baku like the Monegasque wasn’t even there. The pace difference in a straight line is ridiculous with Red Bull looking a class above everyone. The Ferrari driver suggested that Red Bull is in a league of their own, having a much better race pace than anyone on the grid. Leclerc believes the Austrian-based team has found something which the others have not.

According to FOX Sports, Charles Leclerc said, “[Red Bull] are in another league. Over 51 laps, it was just not possible. They have so much more pace than we do in race pace. I think they found something that we didn’t yet. That’s where our focus is at the moment. Everybody’s working flat out to try and understand what we can do in the races, especially to just get more performance.”
