It is quite evident that Daniel Ricciardo is not having the best of times with his new team this season. The Australian is struggling to find his feet in the new MCL35 car and was overshadowed by his a-decade younger teammate, Lando Norris, who has been immensely impressive this season.

The young Brit has scored points in almost every race for the Woking-based team, the exception being the Hungarian GP. Norris has secured three podiums and sits P3 in the driver’s championship, ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez. Whereas, Daniel Ricciardo sits at P9, 63 points behind his teammate.

Meanwhile, Lando Norris was surprised by how much time his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, has taken to adjust with his new team as compared to the likes of Fernando Alonso [Alpine] and Carlos Sainz [Ferrari].

What did Lando Norris say?

“I know it’s not easy [for Ricciardo], but I didn’t have an experience like his one, switching cars one time, again and again. So I can’t judge,” said Lando Norris in an interview with Sky Italia. (Quotes via PlanetF1)

“It’s interesting noticing as other drivers like Carlos [Sainz] at Ferrari are already back on the pace, Fernando [Alonso] as well with Alpine. I thought Daniel too would have been back on the pace at this time, but he’s not far [away].”

I think he can still come back, I really do: Ben Edwards on Daniel Ricciardo

Experienced Formula 1 commentator, Ben Edwards, feels disappointed for the Australian driver who has endured one of the difficult seasons with McLaren this year. Although, Edwards, who has commentated on a couple of Grand Prix this season, expects Daniel Ricciardo to make a comeback in the second half of the season.

“I feel disappointed for Daniel… he’s a real talent, he’s superb, and he has a great approach to Formula 1, so to see what he’s going through is disappointing,” said Ben Edwards.

“I think he can still come back, I really do, actually the next few races after this summer break will be very interesting, we’re going back to early conventional circuits… I think he will deliver there.”

“I think this summer break might help him, he just needs to rejig a bit, I know he’s got the talent to be able to deliver and I really believe he can do it,” added Edwards.
