Lewis Hamilton has made a fortune being on top of the Formula 1 pyramid for a very long time. From expensive supercars to designer clothes, he’s had it all. However, a life lesson from an ailing dear one changed his whole perspective which he carries with him to this day.

Lewis comes from a family where money did not come easy. The boy from Stevenage saw his father quit his regular job to switch to multiple odd jobs to keep his F1 dream afloat. Therefore, when he made it big in life, he made sure he had everything he always aspired to have.

How a lesson from an ailing aunt changed Lewis Hamilton’s perspective on life

We often see Lewis Hamilton engage in adventurous activities ranging from skydiving to mountain biking. We recently saw him go on a fighter jet ride as well. One would think driving an F1 car would fulfill one’s need for the thrill, but the reason Lewis engages in other fun activities is not that, but a lesson he learned from his ailing aunt Diane.

In a 2017 interview with ESPN, Lewis revealed how close he was to his aunt and the message she gave him before she died of cancer. He told, “She asked me to promise her not to waste any time, to live every day like it could be your last. And I’ve taken that more than any lesson I’ve ever had.”

The incident completely changed the way he lived his life. “No one gets to the end and wishes they had more money,” he said. “When my time comes, I want to say, ‘Sh*t, I had a good life. I did everything I possibly could.’ That means, when I’m here, I want to go do sh*t.”

Lewis really does not let go of an opportunity to get himself into high-adrenaline outings. Now we know the reason why he lives life to the fullest. However, there is another reason he revealed last year.

Lewis Hamilton reveals the reason behind his need to keep the adrenaline flowing

Last year in October Lewis Hamilton appeared for an interview with Desus and Mero. There he revealed the activities he engages in when the F1 races are not on.

Hamilton said, “I love surfing. I skydive, love skydiving.” When asked if he was an adrenaline junkie, he explained the reason behind his engaging in such activities.

Yeah, you basically have to substitute it. Because the races. You’re on this massive high and when you come after the race, the next couple of days, you’re just crashing down. Then you hit a low. Then you have to pick yourself back up. You’re back into training. So, I usually fill it in with things, fun activities in between training.”
