Nikita Mazepin Slams Struggling Mick Schumacher While Hinting F1 Return

Nikita Mazepin is unimpressed by the results of his former teammate, Mick Schumacher, as the German is struggling to adapt to the car. Mazepin raced for Haas in 2021 but was let go by the American team a few weeks before the start of the 2022 season amid conflicts between Russia and Ukraine.

Schumacher Jr. is enduring a torrid time this year. The 23-year-old has already crashed twice, which has cost his team a chunk of their budget. Furthermore, he is yet to score a point in Formula 1 despite Haas showing improvement in 2022.

Nikita Mazepin is hopeful of returning to F1

Mazepin did not have the best of starts in F1, and subsequently, he lost his seat to Magnussen ahead of the season. But he is ready to return to Formula 1 if given the opportunity.

He said, “I will get behind the wheel immediately at the first opportunity. I think if Kevin had been asked at the end of February if he would drive a Formula 1 car in a week’s time, he would definitely have said ‘no’.”

The Russian driver is currently not racing. However, he is still hopeful that his situation will change. He also believes that he could return fit, citing Magnussen as an example. The Dane has been Haas’ go-to driver this year with some impressive performances despite joining the team only a few weeks ahead of the season.

“Four months ago, I couldn’t imagine that everything would change so much. And now I can’t imagine that everything will be fine in another four months, but I hope so, anything is possible.”
