The ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict recently had a direct impact on the young Russian Formula One driver, Nikita Mazepin. The 23-year-old quite helplessly watched Haas terminate his contract without giving it a second thought along with the Russian sponsor, Uralkali, he brought with him.

Subsequently, Haas announced that Kevin Magnussen would be taking over Mazepin’s spot; a couple of positive pre-season testing outings since then as the American outfit look more comfortable than ever at the moment.

But, the Mazepin family on the other hand? Not so much! There is seemingly more pressure piling on Mazepin and his father Dmitry Mazepin as the tension rises between Russia and Ukraine. Dmitry initially found himself winding up on the EU sanctions list, thanks to his allegedly close association with the Russian President.

Now, an EU document has linked his son, Nikita Mazepin, to the ongoing Russian attack on Ukraine. Shocking, isn’t it? Well, this came barely hours after Mazepin Jr accused Haas of not committing to a fair play with the contractual talks and the fact that they never privately informed him of the big decision.

Nikita Mazepin joins EU Sanctions List

A statement showed up through one of the EU documents that pointed out Mazepin’s association with his father who has played a role in “providing a substantial source of revenue to the Government of the Russian Federation.

Here’s the statement reported by The Guardian – “Nikita Mazepin is the son of Dmitry Arkadievich Mazepin, General Director of JSC UCC Uralchem. As Uralchem sponsors Haas F1 Team, Dmitry Mazepin is the major sponsor of his son’s activities at Haas F1 Team.

He is a natural person associated with a leading businessperson [his father] involved in economic sectors providing a substantial source of revenue to the Government of the Russian Federation, which is responsible for the annexation of Crimea and the destabilisation of Ukraine.

Overall, Haas has called for peace between the two countries, but the heat doesn’t seem to be coming down as of now. Hence, will this ongoing conflict soon come to an end and pave way for Nikita Mazepin’s potential return to F1?
