There are several things that have made this season difficult for Nikita Mazepin. In addition to being his rookie year in F1, he has been handed a lackluster car with a teammate, Mick Schumacher, with a better qualifying and race finish average than him. Mazepin generally finds himself behind his teammate and at the rock bottom of the grid.

However, the Russian turned his tables around at the British Grand Prix; he overtook Schumacher at Silverstone and finished ahead of the latter for only the second time this season.

One of my best-overtaking maneuvers: Nikita Mazepin

Mazepin was understandably proud of himself for doing so, and he later spoke highly of his overtake.

As quoted by Speedweek, Nikita Mazepin in an official Haas press conference said: “It’s difficult to overtake on this track.

“I used a lot of my tires. But then it was probably my best overtaking maneuver in the last three years.” (Translated via Google Translate)

His teammate, Schumacher, on the other hand, seems to be content with his performance and wants to focus on improvement.

“I have to see what I could have done better now. What we can do better as a team in order not to lose touch with the others. That’s a little more important to me at the moment than trying to avoid driving around in the back,” said the German.

Mazepin future secured in F1 for next season

Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner has revealed the uncertainty regarding Mick Schumacher’s future. However, Nikita Mazepin’s future in the F1 would be secured for the next season.

Nikita Mazepin’s father, Dmitry Mazepin’s mineral fertilizer company Uralchem is reportedly continuing as a title sponsor with Haas. Therefore, the Russian will definitely be the part of all-new Haas car for 2022.

Meanwhile, Mazepin’s teammate Mick Schumacher’s future in Formula 1 is a bit trickier to finalize.

“It’s a three-party contract because he also has one at Ferrari. So there are still a few things that have to be sorted out,” said Hass team principal Guenther Steiner.

“Mick can’t say it has been signed yet, but there is an agreement. However, since there are three parties, it is more complicated than if it was just a contract between the two of us.”
