When you are the brother of Sir Lewis Hamilton, it might be difficult to live being the less successful one. Such is the life of Nicolas Hamilton, who has always been in the shadow of his older brother. Lewis is a record-holding world champion who has won the title 7 times so far. Along with that, he is a multi-millionaire and one of the most popular figures in the sport.
Just like Lewis Hamilton, even Nicolas tried to get into Motorsports, but he couldn’t do as well due to being born prematurely with Spastic diplegia. Recently, The Times did a story segment on him where he opened up about his life and talked about everything from his gambling addiction to his health issues along with his relationship with his stepbrother.

Nicolas and Lewis shared a close bond during their childhood, despite Lewis’ burgeoning career in motorsports. Nicolas faced challenges growing up alongside a successful sibling, feeling overshadowed and underappreciated at times. In the segment with Times, he shared his thoughts on his half-brother’s move to Ferrari.
The younger Hamilton said, “I think it’s the best decision he could have made. Everyone knows the car [at Mercedes] is not as strong as we all would have liked it to have been. And I think, for Lewis, he has been racing for so long now he needs to find his motivation to continue racing. It’s a new chapter for him. I wish him the best.”
But talking about his approaches at tracks he said, “I don’t go to any of his races anymore. I haven’t for a long time. It started out because my races clashed with his, but to be honest I leave Lewis to it. I don’t see him very often. To see Lewis I would have to take a lot of time away from my life.” Finally, he assures everyone, that he is always a phone call away for his brother and this shows how strong their bond still is.
Why did Motorsports not work out for Nicolas Hamilton?
Unlike his brother Lewis, who had significant financial backing and sponsorship deals, Nicolas struggled to secure sufficient money to sustain his racing career. When he didn’t have enough money to continue racing, he learned that it was time to drop out of Motorsports.
