Daniel Ricciardo’s love for America and American sports is no secret. While his reverence for NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Sr. is well known, his love for Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen is pretty new. The Formula 1 driver was there to cheer for his favorite team on Sunday, but it turned out to be a disappointing visit as the Bills lost to the New York Jets 20-17.

The Honey Badger had a giant Josh Allen face cutout that he waved while cheering for his favorite quarterback. The two also played catch before the game. Daniel and Josh met in 2019 during the Monaco GP weekend and instantly became friends.

Daniel Ricciardo’s first Bills game ends in disappointment

The Bills after the loss to the Jets are still on top of the table. They are currently on the .750 percentile as compared to the Jets in 2nd with .667. They had previously lost to Miami Dolphins 21-19.

Fans who were earlier excited to see Ricciardo at the MetLife Stadium jokingly turned against him as their team lost the game.

Here is a reaction from 2021 when McLaren posted a video of Ricciardo and Josh having a fun conversation. The Bills had lost then too. Could there be a pattern here?

At least one fan felt bad for the McLaren driver.

The loss really must have been hard on him, given how excited he was to attend the game. There were videos shared by the NFL team and McLaren on Twitter where he cheered for the team.

In the video posted by the Bills, Ricciardo said“What’s going on Bills Mafia? Big day, big day today. It’s my first.”

He further shared, “My first Bills day. We’re here at MetLife [Stadium] and I’m excited.”

In the Netflix series Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Daniel Ricciardo revealed how he grew up watching NASCAR and was a big Dale Earnhardt fan. On his initial meeting with McLaren boss, principal Zak Brown, he was gifted a miniature Chevrolet Monte Carlo that Earnhardt drove in the yesteryears.

Zak promised him he would let him drive the Monte Carlo he owned when Ricciardo would get his first podium for the team. Ricciardo, on the other hand, challenged Zak to do a ‘shoey’ on the podium.

The team principal kept both his promises when Ricciardo won the Italian GP in 2021. Daniel Ricciardo drove the Chevrolet around the COTA before the US GP. Zak, honoring the bet, drank the winning champagne from Ricciardo’s shoe on the podium.
