F1 is an unforgiving and ruthless sport with no room for error of any kind. This is why we annually witness drivers moving from one team to another, and surprisingly this year we also witnessed team principals making the switch. But one thing that happens behind the scenes is the movement of engineers and technicians from one garage to another. And Lewis Hamilton?s recent statement sheds some light on it.

Since his contribution to the Walton-Penner family group’s $4.65 billion purchase of the Denver Broncos, the Mercedes driver has gained new insights and grown. The driver is now keen to learn more about the sport and the industry as he draws a parallel between the transfers that take place in the NFL and F1.

“There are actually more than 2,000 people now to build two cars. They all change positions, it’s a bit like in the NFL for example. I have attended the Denver Broncos game in Los Angeles and I am learning more and more about the NFL, about how players are replaced so often in a season. It?s very, very similar for us with engineers and designers,” Lewis said, as quoted by Motorsport NextGen Auto, as he spoke about the common ground between the two iconic sports.

“They’re not traded as such, but they’re chased by other teams, you know, the other teams want our aerodynamics specialist, or our tire specialist.”

Instead of comparing drivers’ transfers to those of the players, the Briton compared technical staff to those of the players, owing to the magnitude of what must happen behind the scenes and away from the public’s gaze.

Lewis Hamilton is happy with his investment

Lewis Hamilton?s stake is a mere 0.2% but costs a whopping $3 million. And despite a challenging start for the team, the driver confessed, “Honestly, this is an incredible honor and an incredible opportunity.”

The driver, known for his philanthropy and social activism, spotted an opportunity to boost his values and convey a message through the NFL and took his chance. “There is a real lack of black owners, and I constantly press for diversity. There is a lot of work to be done and I am really proud to be part of it,” he said as one of the reasons for his purchase.

Other than being seen at the Super Bowl, Lewis Hamilton was spotted on October 17, during the Broncos? 19-16 defeat to the Chargers in Los Angeles. Since his purchase, the driver is said to be taking more interest in the sport and hopefully, he dives deeper once he packs up his garage.
