Australian racer Daniel Ricciardo is an American at heart. The VCARB racer owns a house in Los Angeles and has often spoken of his love for the American way of life. At one point, the Honey Badger even guessed he would be a Texan if he “had a second life“. But mostly, Daniel Ricciardo is a great fan of the sports culture in the US. So, he took a fun quiz for an Instagram collaboration between the Racing Bulls and the NFL. For this, he had to name as many NFL teams as he could within 30 seconds.

In the IG reel showing Ricciardo naming all the NFL teams that came to his mind, a surprising thing happened. He started the list with his favorite squad, the Buffalo Bills, and ended it with the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, being an elite athlete himself, Daniel Ricciardo often runs shoulders from players of other sports, and in the NFL, his “bestie” happens to be Josh Allen. Allen is the famous quarterback for the Buffalo Bills and has a history with the Chiefs player, Patrick Mahomes.

So, while taking Mahomes’ team’s name, Ricciardo said, “Didn’t wanna say it…but, Kansas City Chiefs!” This shows how the 34-year-old wants to back his friend Josh Allen in the quarterback’s rivalry with the Kansas City Chiefs. In the past, the Honey Badger has revealed how close he is to Allen, saying, “Josh and I, over the last few years, have definitely become good friends and created a bromance, if you will.” Now, Daniel has held up his end of the “bromance” by admitting that he did not even want to take the name of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Daniel Ricciardo and Josh Allen have even campaigned for Beats together as the brand made a short skit for them. Calling the pair “Ricallen“, the video was given the name: ‘The Legend of Ricallen’. After shooting the skit, Josh Allen spoke of his friendship with the F1 racer, claiming, “DR [Daniel Ricciardo] and I have been friends for several years now. They don’t make ’em any better than him.”

But even if Ricciardo dislikes the Kansas City Chiefs because of his friend’s rivalry with them, there’s a link between F1 and the NFL team. So, what is it?

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is now an F1 team owner

Last year, Alpine invited an investment group to buy some stakes in the Enstone outfit. The group is called Otro Capital, and its lead investors are people whom Daniel Ricciardo and his “bro” Josh Allen do not particularly like. Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are the ones leading Otro Capital as they pooled money to buy shares of Alpine for a $218 million investment. Thus, there is now a link between the F1 team Alpine and the Kansas City Chiefs.

If you are wondering why Dany Ricc and Josh Allen have a rivalry with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in general, it is because of game results. Allen’s team, Buffalo Bills (which happens to be Daniel Ricciardo’s favorite NFL squad) has won most of the regular season games against the Kansas City Chiefs. On the other hand, Mahomes’ Chiefs has won the playoff matches that they have played against the Bills.

Interestingly, Alpines might have owners whom Daniel Ricciardo does not like, but the Aussie has raced for the team in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. At that time, thought, the squad went by the name of Renault. Now, Ricciardo has found his place at VCARB but he might replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull if the Mexican fails to perform. Do you think RBR would take up the 8-time Grand Prix winner as Max Verstappen’s partner?
