Can Josh Allen really dethrone the Chiefs, or is Ricciardo just being a loyal friend?

Don’t you love it when the F1 and NFL worlds crossover? Of late, only Super Bowl winners Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have been making this happen because of their frequent paddock appearances, courtesy of their investment in the Alpine F1 team. But the OG bromantic duo of Daniel Ricciardo and Josh Allen is back in action, ready to make headlines. The Australian driver has started off by cautioning Allen-led Buffalo Bills’ rivals with a surprising revelation.

The Buffalo Bills have made four Super Bowl appearances, but none after 1994. Quarterback Josh Allen, who Daniel Ricciardo describes as his “man crush”, has an uphill task ahead of him to break this undesirable streak. The AFC East division team begins training camp for the 2024-25 season on Wednesday in New York. According to Ricciardo, Allen’s people skills will be the cherries on top of the metaphorical cake of their on-field preparation. So, defending champs Kansas City Chiefs might be favorites to take their third consecutive Super Bowl in 2025, but the Buffalo Bills cannot be disregarded.

“I’ve gotten to know Josh a little bit over the years,” Ricciardo told Bleacher Report. “I think that if anyone is writing them off, that’s where he will shine,” he added, in a way projecting onto Allen what he has been facing in F1. “I think he will bring that group together so much. There’s been times when we’ve Facetimed and he’s at home and he’s got literally the entire team, and they’re just bonding and hanging out.”

Kelce and Mahomes need to watch their backs because a new sheriff might be in town. Though the VCARB driver speaks from his heart, this public revival of their friendship isn’t incidental. The duo has turned their relationship into capitalism by flagging off a big-ticket project for one of America’s biggest brands.

Daniel Ricciardo & Josh Allen prep for the “ride of their lives”

Imagine a buddy comedy movie but instead of actors, real-life characters play themselves. American audio brand Beats by Dre has done exactly this, making F1 and NFL fans’ dreams come true. They are bringing a unique side of Daniel Ricciardo and Josh Allen’s bromance (that began with a chance encounter at the 2019 Monaco GP) to screen.

The trailer, posted on their Instagram channel, begins with a cold open as Josh Allen and Daniel Ricciardo look at something offscreen. Hollywood style, the trailer alternates between teaser clips and text. As the sentence, “Two superstar best friends are about to take the ride of their lives,” concludes, the duo makes a goofy entrance in cowboy clothing with Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road playing in the background on a Beats speaker. “We should do something crazy,” says Ricciardo’s voiceover as Allen mysteriously replies, “That horse is our destiny.”

A montage of clips from their country adventure follows, culminating in the revelation of ‘THE LEGEND OF RICALLEN’. “Do you believe?” asked Ricciardo, leaving us with a cliffhanger. The film will drop on Wednesday, July 24, and serve as a promotional tactic for RICALLEN X ENCHANTÉ merch. Enchanté is Ricciardo’s clothing brand, which has partnered with Beats for clothing that celebrates his friendship with Allen.

Can this bromance be any cuter? Allen and Ricciardo even have a joint quote to go with this film that says, “Friendship is life’s greatest victory.” It’s amazing how well F1’s beloved Honey Badger gets along with anybody and everybody. Maybe someday we’ll get an F1 film that celebrates his friendship with Lando Norris and Max Verstappen as well.
