This had fans and Hamilton getting flashbacks of his crash with Verstappen at the same corner in 2021. The Britton made contact with Verstappen, sending him into the wall. He then received a 10-second time penalty, despite which he won the race.
In a recent video, Hamilton can be seen discussing his battle on the 48th lap with Leclerc. The two were contending for P3 when Leclerc pulled out no stops to pass Hamilton at Copse. This bold move gave Hamilton flashbacks of his crash with Verstappen. He said, “I was like, f***, I don’t want to just clip you and send you off”.
He also praised Leclerc for his racing acumen. Hamilton said, “Charles did a great job, a great battle.” He added, “He’s such a sensible driver, definitely different to what I experienced last year. Copse, for example–we got through there no problem.”

After the race, Hamilton said, “It’s massively satisfying. I was a bit lonely once I got [into third]. These guys were like 30-something seconds ahead of me, so I was just watching their race on the TV.”
He added, “So I was getting a bit of a fan view of what was happening. I saw some of the overtakes they were having. I think they did replays and stuff”. Hamilton concluded by saying, “But after such a difficult weekend, with the crash, with a monumental effort from the team to rebuild the car this is a really great result. So I’m very grateful.”
