Nicholas Latifi is usually the talk of the town, but for all the wrong reasons. Anything that the Canadian does becomes meme material for all Formula 1 fans to enjoy. So what has Latifi, or as people call him ‘Goatifi’, done now to catch the attention of Formula 1 fans?

The Formula 1 circus has traveled to Japan for this year’s Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka International Circuit. However, during Free Practice 2, Latifi did something so bizarre that it instantly became viral on social media. What’s more? He blamed the car for it!

Formula 1 posted the incident on their official Twitter. However, unseen fan footage was released later on. Latifi can be seen missing the chicane at the penultimate corner of the track. Rather, he takes a turn onto a service road not part of the track which comes right before the chicane. You could forgive Latifi in light of the visibility conditions at the track on Friday. However. his response is even more bizarre.

Latifi came onto the radio post the incident. He, however, blamed his car! “Not sure what happened there. The car…real strange. Anyway, I’m ok.”.

This may have just been one of those days for Nicholas Latifi. His stint, however, in Formula 1 may just be coming to an end. It was announced earlier that the Canadian would not be returning to the Grove-based outfit in 2023.

Nicholas Latifi to leave Williams at the end of 2022

Nicholas Latifi joined Williams back in 2020. However, he has failed to beat any of his teammates on pure pace over the course of a season. His time with Williams is coming to an end come the conclusion of the 2022 Formula 1 season.

Williams announced that Latifi will not be re-signed for the 2023 season. To this, the Canadian said, “Although we have not achieved the results we hoped we would, it’s still been a fantastic journey.”

Even though Latifi was not retained by Williams, Team Principal Jost Capito had only kind words for the outgoing Latifi. “He is a great team player who has a great attitude towards his colleagues and work and is well liked and respected throughout the business.
